AFTER THE VISIT OF THE RELICS

Her ‘desire was “to love Jesus & to make him loved.” This was her mission statement.
Can it be ours too? Can we, today truly love Jesus & make him loved?’
Here we give thanks for the grace of the visit of the relics of Therese & ask that the presence of our Carmelite sister will continue to help & inspire us .

On October 12th 2009 the Carmelites of Ware joined their sisters at the Carmelite Monastery of Notting Hill in central London for the visit of the relics of St Therese.

The casket containing Therese’s relics was taken into the enclosure. The enclosure doors remained open for pilgrims to come into the monastery & venerate the relics. (Visitors are not normally able to come into the enclosure)

The relics in the cloister of Notting Hill Monastery.
Pilgrims, including many local school children, prayed at the casket. Near by the Blessed Sacrament chapel was filled by pilgrims wanting to pray.
Extra priests were called upon as many pilgrims wanted the opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation. Throughout the visit there was a wonderful atmosphere of prayer & joy.

Many found that the small museum (which was specially set up for the visit) was a fascinating insight into Carmelite life in the time of St Therese.

To have the relics of St Therese in a Westminster Carmel was a very privileged experience. We especially thank our sisters of Notting Hill Carmel.

After leaving the monastery enclosure the Lisieux Carmelite went to Wormwood Scrubs prison.

Meanwhile the Westminster Carmelites went to the Cathedral for the arrival of the relics there.
Over the days that the relics were in the Cathedral, the nuns of Ware & Notting Hill participated in the services & vigils.

Thank you to all who made the visit of the relics possible.

The Challenge of Therese is the Challenge which is the Challenge of the Gospel.
‘The practice of love in every relationship is the heart of our mission, a mission carried out in every action, at every moment. And our mission is here. “Make love real where you live”. That is her invitation.’
